Battery isolating diodes allow multiple batteries to be charged simultaneously from a single power source without connecting the individual batteries together. This allows, for example, the on-board battery to be charged without simultaneously discharging the starter battery. Furthermore, the use of modern Schottky diodes minimizes voltage drop. It is approximately 0.3 V at low currents and approximately 0.45 V at rated current.

All models in this series are equipped with a compensation diode, which slightly increases the output voltage of the alternator in order to compensate for the voltage loss caused by the Schottky diodes.

Generator start-up excitation: Some generator types require a DC voltage at the B+ terminal for start-up excitation. On the one hand, the connection between the battery and the generator provides a direct cable connection. On the other hand, the isolating diode prevents current from flowing back, preventing the generator from starting. The new 802AC battery isolating diode has a special current-limited connection for start-up excitation when the generator is started.
