Product description
Multifunctional, with intelligent energy management
The MultiPlus is a powerful pure sine wave inverter, an advanced battery charger utilizing adaptive charging technology, and a high-speed AC transfer switch all in a single compact package. In addition to these primary functions, the MultiPlus offers several advanced features, which are explained below.
Two AC outputs
The main output ensures uninterrupted operation. In the event of a grid failure or an interruption in shore/generator power, the MultiPlus takes over power to the connected loads. The switchover occurs so quickly (in less than 20 milliseconds) that uninterrupted operation of computers and other electronic devices is ensured. The second output only supplies power when AC power is available at the MultiPlus input. Loads that must not drain the battery, such as a water heater, can be connected to this output (a second output is available on models with a power rating of 3 kVA and above).
Virtually unlimited power through parallel connection
Up to six Multis can be connected in parallel for high power requirements. Six 24/3000/70 units, for example, deliver 15 kW / 18 kVA output power with 420 amps of charging capacity.
Three-phase operation
In addition to parallel connection, three devices can also be configured for a three-phase output. But that's not all: with three strings of six devices connected in parallel, a 45 kW/54 kVA three-phase inverter and a 1260 A charger can be built.
Split-phase options
Two units can be connected together to provide 120-0-120 V. Additional units can be connected in parallel—up to 6 units per phase—to provide up to 30 kW/36 kVA of split-phase power. Alternatively, a split-phase AC power source can be created by connecting our autotransformer (see also the datasheet at www.victronenergy.com) to a 'European' inverter programmed to deliver 240 V/60 Hz.
PowerControl – Working with limited generator power, restricted shore or grid power
The MultiPlus is a very powerful battery charger. Therefore, it draws a lot of current from the generator or shore power supply (almost 20 A per 3 kVA MultiPlus at 120 VAC). The MultiControl remote control panel allows you to set the maximum mains or generator current to be drawn. The MultiPlus then takes other connected AC devices into account and uses only the remaining power for charging. This prevents the generator or shore power connection from being overloaded.
PowerAssist – “performance enhancement” of generators and shore connection support
This function adds a new dimension to the PowerControl principle. It allows the MultiPlus to support underpowered alternative sources. Load peaks often only occur for a limited period of time. In such a case, the MultiPlus ensures that insufficient shore power or generator power is immediately compensated for with energy from the battery. If the load is reduced, the "excess" energy can be used to charge the batteries.
Four-stage adaptive charger and dual battery charging
The main output provides powerful charging of the battery system using advanced adaptive charging software. The software fine-tunes the automatic, three-stage charging process to best match the battery condition and adds a fourth stage for long periods of maintenance. The adaptive charging process is described in more detail in the Phoenix charger datasheet and on our website under "Technical Information." The MultiPlus also charges a second battery using an independent maintenance output designed for a prime mover or a generator starter battery.
System configuration easier than ever
After installation, the MultiPlus is ready for use. If settings need to be changed, this can be done within a few minutes using a DIP switch setup procedure. Even parallel connection or three-phase operation can be programmed using the DIP switches: no computer is required! Alternatively, VE.Net can be used instead of the DIP switches. Advanced software (VE.Bus Quick Configuration and VE.Bus System Configuration) is also available to configure some new, advanced features.
