15 useful and fun camping gadgets you absolutely should have! Or maybe not ;-)

15 nützliche und lustige Camping Gadgets, die Du unbedingt haben solltest! Oder auch nicht ;-)

The world of gadgets is vast, and the camping sector is no exception, offering a plethora of fun and useful inventions for motorhomes, campers, and the like. We've done the research and compiled a list for you. We find some gadgets very well-designed and useful, while others seem rather superfluous. Find out now which ones are worthwhile for you and which ones you definitely don't need.

1. Firesteel

Anyone who watched 7 vs. Wild is probably shouting, "You absolutely need this!" and we agree, a firesteel is quite handy for camping. That is, provided you actually plan on making a campfire. Lighting candles inside your camper is much easier with a lighter or a match.

2. Extendable clothesline

Is your towel still wet from the bath and you don't know where to put it? We've found this gadget for you: a retractable clothesline. You can easily string it between your campervan and a tree. The cool thing is, you don't have to wind it up every time you use it.

3. Survival kit (with axe and hammer)

For true survival enthusiasts, such a kit is definitely very useful, and you should always have some tools with you when camping. But if you're just traveling from campsite to campsite, then there's one thing you don't need.

4. Foldable kettle

This foldable kettle doesn't require electricity; it simply sits on the stovetop to heat the water. A definite plus is its foldable design, allowing it to fit almost anywhere. If you drink a lot of hot beverages, this gadget is definitely a worthwhile purchase.

5. Power bank with solar

Giving up our phones is hard for all of us, isn't it? But what if electricity runs low while camping? Then it's definitely useful to have a power bank that can also be charged by solar power. Simply place it in the sun and the battery will recharge, so we don't have to go without our smartphones.

6. Pocket-sized chainsaw

Next up is the pocket-sized chainsaw. When was the last time you needed a chainsaw on a camping trip? Was there perhaps a tree in the way? Now, just consider whether you could cut through a tree with a chainsaw. For us, it falls into the category of "Nice to have, but not essential!"

7. Travel towels

Because the travel towels are made of microfiber, they dry quickly and take up little space. Especially in combination with the extendable clothesline from point 2, we find this gadget very suitable for everyday camping.

8. Toilet stool

Whether homemade or bought online, this gadget is really only for true campers and outdoor enthusiasts who love being self-sufficient in nature. The advantage, however, is that the toilet stool can be folded up small and takes up very little space.

9. Foldable solar shower

Again, this is only for true outdoor camping enthusiasts! It's also incredibly practical, as the water is heated by the sun, allowing for a quick shower in the morning. However, if you're staying at campsites, this gadget isn't really worth it, as the showers at the campsite are certainly much more comfortable.

10. Water bottle with water filter

Unfortunately, you can't simply drink tap water in all countries; a water filter is useful in such situations. It purifies the water so that you can drink it. So, if you don't have the opportunity to buy bottled water, a water filter is a good alternative.

11. Mobile washing machine

In most larger cities, you can usually find a laundromat where you can do your laundry while traveling in your campervan. However, if you're planning to be away for several weeks, a portable washing machine can be a good idea. In that case, you'll need to bring enough water with you, otherwise you won't be able to do your laundry.

12. Mobile coffee machine

A must-have for all coffee lovers when camping! All you need is this small coffee maker, a coffee pod, and hot water, and you can brew yourself a coffee on the go. Perfect for anyone traveling in a small campervan who doesn't want to miss their morning coffee.

13. Camping lamp with UV mosquito killer

Who likes mosquitoes? And especially in the evenings, when you're sitting with your neighbors at the campsite, enjoying a relaxing end to the day, those pesky mosquitoes can be a real nuisance. That's exactly what this UV mosquito killer is designed to prevent. The UV light attracts and traps the mosquitoes. The lamp is easily recharged with the included USB cable.

14. Music box with solar power

A life without music is possible, but pointless, in our opinion. That's why a solar-powered music box is an absolute must-have for us. With it, you'll never run out of music again.

15. Foldable bowls and dishes

These foldable bowls and dishes save you a lot of space, which is especially important for long-term vanlifers. When you're constantly on the road and living in a campervan, it's crucial to have space-saving items with you. These bowls are really practical for that.

And those were our 15 camping gadgets. Now you have a rough overview of camping gadgets. Was there anything you absolutely need for your next trip? Or are you already fully equipped with all sorts of gadgets?
