Unlike a simple cut-off relay, the charging voltage is increased to the value required for a full charge for the respective battery type and specified by the battery manufacturers. This allows the full charging current to flow, charging considerable amounts of current into the battery in a short time. Long charging lines and losses, as well as voltage fluctuations at the alternator, are smoothly compensated.
